Patent
Indices Hit Long Time Highs
ALBANY,
NY (July, 2008)(8:00)(EST) — Hoffman Warnick LLC, an intellectual
property law firm based in Albany, NY, has released the Tech Valley
Patent Index for Second Quarter 2008.
The “Patent Index” includes data for: the Capital Region
(
Albany
,
Schenectady
,
Saratoga
and Rensselaer counties),
Tech
Valley
,
Tech
Valley
without IBM and GE, and the Capital Region without GE.
With
regard to the Second Quarter, “the numbers across the board are at
long time highs, which is a pleasant surprise considering the
national number is only up a small amount,"
stated
Spencer Warnick
, partner at Hoffman Warnick LLC.
Of note, the Capital Region without GE patent index is at a
record high, perhaps indicating the increasing influence of the
presence of International Sematech in the region.
Also, the Capital Region patent index is at its highest
amount in almost three years.
The "Patent of the
Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the creativity of
Tech
Valley
inventors. This quarter,
the POQ is awarded to: US Patent No. 7355508 issued to Zahid Mian, Ryk Spoor and Ron Gamache for a
“System and Method for Monitoring an Area.”
The patent issued April 8, 2008.
The patent is assigned to International Electronic Machines
of Albany, which is a
client
of Hoffman Warnick LLC.
