Patent
Indices Set Numerous Record Highs
ALBANY, NY
(October 10, 2006)(8:00)(EST) — Hoffman, Warnick &
D'Alessandro LLC (HWD), an intellectual property law firm based in
Albany, NY, has released the Tech Valley Patent Index for Third Quarter
2006. The
“Patent Index” includes data for: the Capital
Region ( Albany , Schenectady , Saratoga and Rensselaer
counties), Tech
Valley
,
Tech
Valley without IBM and GE,
and the Capital Region without GE.
With
regard to the Third Quarter, “the growth in Tech Valley is
now becoming readily apparent in the HWD Patent Indices as exhibited by
the numerous records set this quarter," stated Spencer Warnick , partner
at Hoffman, Warnick & D’Alessandro.
In particular, the Tech Valley Patent Index is
at 708, the highest mark in over four years.
More significantly, however, the Tech Valley
and the Capital Region Patent Indices without GE and IBM set all-time highs of 328 and 96,
respectively, indicating that Tech Valley and the Capital Region are
not just about those two companies any more.
Mr. Warnick noted that “this is
proof of what we originally anticipated as a growth trend, particularly
for the Capital Region. The
research conducted at such places as Starfire Systems, Clever Fellows
Innovation Consortium (CFIC), Albany Nanotech and other locations is
resulting in the Valley and Region not being a two pony show any more. We are clearly a
technologically diverse area. It’s
something we’ve known all along, that is, we are not just
about GE and IBM. But
the Patent Indices are now proving it - it’s real reason to
celebrate.”
The
"Patent of the Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the
creativity of Tech Valley
inventors. This
quarter, the POQ, is truly looking to support the Tech
Valley
region by presenting this
quarter’s award to: US Design Patent No.
525,012
issued to Tara Valentin for a “Multi-piece Bra.” The design patent issued
July 18, 2006, and is owned by Creative Bra Designs.
Tara Valentin and Creative Bra Designs are clients of Hoffman,
Warnick & D’Alessandro.
