Patent Indices Set Numerous Record Highs

ALBANY, NY (January 2, 2007)(8:00)(EST) — Hoffman, Warnick & D'Alessandro LLC (HWD), an intellectual property law firm based in Albany, NY, has released the Tech Valley Patent Index for Fourth Quarter 2006, the Annual Report and the Annual Average Report.  The “Patent Index” and the Annual Reports include data for: the Capital Region ( Albany , Schenectady , Saratoga and Rensselaer counties), Tech Valley , Tech Valley without IBM and GE, and the Capital Region without GE.

With regard to the Fourth Quarter, “the growth in the Capital Region is now becoming steady in the HWD Patent Indices as exhibited by the record high for the Capital Region for the past two years," stated Spencer Warnick , partner at Hoffman, Warnick & D’Alessandro.  The Annual Report also support this conclusion in that the Capital Region without GE total is highest it has been in three years. 

The "Patent of the Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the creativity of Tech Valley inventors.  This quarter, the POQ is awarded to: US Patent No. 7,141,974 issued to Bill Edelstein et al. for “Active Passive Electromagnetic Shielding to Reduce MRI Acoustic Noise.”  The patent issued November 28, 2006.  Bill Edelstein is a client of Hoffman, Warnick & D’Alessandro.
