Patent Agent

Function

Perform the spectrum of legal and/or technical tasks for intellectual property patent, trademark and copyright application, prosecution, infringement or litigation processes.

Reports to  Partners

Subordinates  None

Major Responsibilities

• Write and research patent applications

• Perform patent prosecution including responses to the Patent and Trademark Office’s Office Actions including examiner’s interviews, preparing and filing Appeal Briefs

• Perform client consultations

• Write and research trademark and copyright applications

• Prepare and write legal opinion on questions of patentability and infringement

• Provide legal advice on matters of litigation

• Provide technical expertise in areas in which one practices patent prosecution

Qualifications

Required

Education:   Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Patent Bar Registered

Experience:  One year prior legal experience in IP firm

Skills:           Proficiency and accuracy in keyboarding and Microsoft Office; interpersonal communication

Preferred

Experience:   Two to five years prior legal experience in IP firm
